LEGENDS
GATHER TO CELEBRATE
GRAM PARSONS LEGACY
September 8, 2002 (Nashville,
TN) – A host of music legends including Jessi Colter, Rosie Flores,
Jim Lauderdale, and Chris
Knight will gather to honor the memory of Gram Parsons with
a concert entitled Standing
in the Shadow of the Grievous Angel on September 19th
at the Blue Sky Court in Nashville. The date marks the 30th
anniversary of the passing of Parsons, who is commonly referred
to as the father of country rock music, and was known not only for
his brief but celebrated solo career but also for his work as a
member of the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers.
The
event, presented by Sin City Marketing and Polly Parsons, the daughter
of Gram Parsons, will also feature performances by Grant Lee Phillips,
eastmountainsouth, and the Bottle Rockets, along with a few surprise
guests.
The
concert coincides with this year’s Americana Music Conference,
and a special panel discussion will take place on September 18th
at the main ballroom of the Renaissance Hotel for conference attendees,
moderated by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame historian and former editor
of Rolling Stone Holly George-Warren, and featuring famed author
Pamela Des Barres, Peter Blackstock of No Depression magazine, and
other notable artists and industry professionals who were close
to Parsons.
The
free concert will begin at 10:00 pm on Friday, September 19th
and is open to the public. The Blue Sky Court is located at
410 4th Avenue South in Nashville Tennessee.
