BAND OF VANDY DOCS AND STAFFERS SET TO ROCK
MILLER HARRIS FOUNDATION GOLF TOURNEY KICK-OFF PARTY
SEPTEMBER 7, 2006 (NASHVILLE) – Soul Incision, a band formed in 1998 by Vanderbilt doctors, nurses, and administrative staff as an outlet to unwind from the stresses of their serious day jobs, is set to perform at the kick-off party for the Miller Harris Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday, September 9th at Judge Bean’s Barbeque at 6 pm.
In addition to Soul Incision’s performance, the kick-off party, which is open to the public for a cover charge of $10, will also feature an appearance by the Tennessee Titans Cheerleaders and a silent auction to include many one-of-a-kind items. All proceeds from the kick-off party will go to the Miller Harris Foundation, benefiting asthma education and research as well as music education.
The kick-off party will be followed by the 7th annual Miller Harris Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday, September 11th at 11:30 am. The tournament has become a tradition for many members of the Music Row community, but golfers from all walks of life are welcome to participate and contribute to the fundraising efforts of the charity.
The Miller Harris Foundation in partnership with The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and the Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center recently hosted The Miller Harris Asthma Camp for Kids, which provided educational sessions to inner-city children living with asthma, taught by medical professionals with experience in specialized needs of asthmatics. Campers also participated in a wide array of activities including arts & crafts, archery, hiking, games, and swimming.
The Miller Harris Foundation is a private nonprofit (501c3) organization established in 2002 by family and friends of music business professional Miller Harris, who died tragically from an asthmatic attack while preparing for a golf outing with friends at the age of only twenty-five. The Foundation seeks to help fund organizations that were important to Miller, his family and friends, as well as those that educate others that experience the effects of asthma everyday.
Openings are still available for the Miller Harris Memorial Golf Tournament. For more information on sponsorships, player packages, or volunteer opportunities, please contact the Miller Harris Foundation at (615) 242-2842 or go to www.millerharrisfoundation.com.
