MILLER HARRIS FOUNDATION, VANDERBILT, CAMP WIDJIWAGAN FEBRUARY 7, 2007 (NASHVILLE) – The Miller Harris Foundation, in conjunction with the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and the YMCA’s Camp Widjiwagan, has announced dates for its 2nd annual Miller Harris Asthma Camp for Kids on August 6th through 10th. The Miller Harris Asthma Camp for Kids is designed to help asthmatic children enjoy the fun of summer camp with the security of supervision by physicians. The program teaches kids to manage their asthma while building confidence in controlling their attacks in the setting of a fun, activity-packed summer camp at the Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center. The camp, in its 2nd year, incorporates all the exciting outdoor activities that Camp Widjiwagan offers along with educational sessions staffed by physicians from the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s hospital who give of their time to educate campers, many of whom attend thanks to scholarships provided by the Miller Harris Foundation. Although the efforts of The Miller Harris Foundation focus on providing scholarships to the camp for indigent families in the Middle Tennessee area with asthmatic children, the camp also offers open registration for tuition of $300. The camp is limited to 100 campers, and there are approximately 50 slots available for open registration. There are approximately ___ children in the Nashville area living with asthma. The Miller Harris Foundation is a private nonprofit (501c3) organization established in 2002 by family and friends of Miller Harris, who died tragically from an asthmatic attack in September of 1999 while preparing for a golf outing with friends at the age of only twenty-five. The Foundation has been set up to promote and support scholarships and organizations in Miller’s name.
